How to rid yourself of anxiety | The Self Esteem Builder

We have all had the feelings and butterflies in our belly. We start to worry and wonder, “am I doing this right?” “What if I mess this up.” Then you think “I should cancel.”   At this point your mind goes back and worth fighting which way you should go. Essentially that is what anxiety is, it is having feelings of worry and fear. I was not aware of this for the longest time, nor did I realize what anxiety was and that everyone has some form of it at one point in his, or her life.

If you, or someone you know has been diagnosed with a Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Separation Anxiety, specific Phobia, Social Anxiety, Panic (attacks), Agoraphobia; the list goes on and on. What someone living with anxiety wants you to know. Acknowledge that they cannot control their emotions I suggest having empathy and patience for the individual who is having feelings of anxiety, let them talk about it on their own time. They may never wish to discuss it. Do not push them, as it will cause their anxiety to increase. By taking this extra step it will empower them to feel a little bit more at ease, relaxed and comfortable.

All the above-mentioned disorders have a common factor, which is being scared, or worried that causes a disruption, or impairment to their day. If you, or know someone who is experiencing feelings of being worried, or fear anything more days than not during a six month time period, I suggest making an appointment with their/your family physician. It is always better to be overly cautious and get the help they/you need, than to wait and things get progressively worse. I always recommend talking with a counselor, or a therapist. This helps in the healing process.

Starting in January I will be offering one on one coaching. More details to come.
