Getting into a routine.

 

Getting into a routine is hard, maintaining it is even harder. Setting yourself up for success is the best way to make sure you get the results you are looking for. Time is the number one reason why most of us can’t stay on target. Usually, this is a result of not having a plan, or accountability.

 

Before you join the gym, or a fitness class, I suggest sitting down, write down your goals. ( I have a free goal setting workout that you can download.) Set realistic expectations that are going to work for you.

 

Believe it, or not, it doesn’t have anything with being lazy, we just expect too much of ourselves at times and when we can’t deliver. We often think that we have failed. Think about how many days/hours a week you can commit to. If you can only workout for 30 minutes 5 times a week, or 1 hour 3 times a week, then do just that. If you don’t have the time to go every day, don’t stress because you don’t have to in order to reach your goals.

 

Do you know how to use the equipment?

 

Have someone show you if you don’t. Many gyms and fitness instructors are happy to work with you if you’re not sure what you’re doing. This will give you the confidence to keep going and help you to maintain your routine.

 

Find something that you enjoy!

 

This doesn’t have to be what your bestie likes, or the latest and greatest fad. You may need to try a number of programs to figure this one out but if you enjoy it, you will stick to a routine. If you’re really stuck, consult, or work with a personal trainer who can help you implement a plan.
